When last seen on Days of Our Lives, A Martinez (or more accurately, his character, Eduardo Hernandez) was hand to warn his offspring of impending danger. Luckily the only thing that Martinez needs to fear in real-life is the copious amounts of celebrating he’ll soon be indulging in.
Happy Birthday, A Martinez
And that’s because he was born on September 27, 1948, in Glendale, California, which means that this living soap opera legend is turning 72 years old today! Martinez began his professional career at the age of 12 as a singer and throughout his middle and high school years, he appeared in a number of theatrical productions.
Martinez’s film and television debut were in 1968 effort The Young Animals and an episode of the series The Outcasts (recorded in 1969) respectively. His subsequent roles included guest appearances on programs such as Mission: Impossible, The New People, Ironside, and Adam-12, as well as roles in features like Change of Habit and The Cowboys.
Martinez’s biggest claim to fame was his nine-year stint on daytime soap opera Santa Barbara. For his work as top cop Cruz Castillo, Martinez earned himself a Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Leading Actor category.
His other forays into the world of daily serials included roles on General Hospital (ex-Roy Delucca), One Life to Live (ex-Ray Montez), The Bold and the Beautiful (ex-Ramon Montgomery, M.D.), and Days of Our Lives (where he has recurred as Hernandez family patriarch Eduardo since 2015).
Martinez’s other acting credits include recurring roles in Profiler, Queen of the South, Longmire, and The Bay as well as starring parts in films such as She-Devil and One Night Stand.
Martinez has been married to Leslie Bryans since 1982. Together the couple – who currently resides in Thousand Oaks, California – have welcomed three children: a son and two daughters.
