Soap Hub Performer of the Week for DAYS: Camila Banus

Truth be told, it’s the characters that we love to hate, that we love the most – and who give us the biggest visceral thrill. Case in point, Days of our Lives Gabi Hernandez DiMera, played to utter perfection by Camila Banus – the most recent recipient of Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week honors.

Who among us wouldn’t love to have Gabi’s chutzpah, or her ability to own every single room that she walks into? Sure, sure, she may have to suffer a few indignities – like being strong-armed into apologizing to her most hated foe, Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun), but Gabi can also get away with offering that, “I’m sorry,” and then tossing out a rejoinder like, “Go choke on a ravioli!”

And while Gabi the fictional character is spitfire, actress Camila Banus practically pops and sizzles with every co-star she shares a scene with – but none more so than Brandon Barash, AKA Gabi’s not so better half, Jake DiMera; put these two together and watch the fireworks.

Their chemistry was on full display in scenes featuring Gabi pressing Jake to open up to her about his time spent working as a mafia underling, and realizing that she just might not know her lover as well as she thought she did.

In the end, Gabi decided that she and Jake should count their (ample) blessings, be grateful that they’ve got so much going for them – and get back to scheming their way to the top seat at Titan.

Here’s hoping that the duo is successful in their coup…though, at second thought, perhaps failure would be a more favorable outcome for us viewers. Gabi Hernandez is always at her best when things seem their worst – and that’s all thanks to her brilliant portrayer, Camila Banus.
