Camila Banus Days of Our Lives
There are few characters on soaps these days like Gabi Hernandez, a woman who has been wronged so many times she just doesn’t care anymore and feels she’s entitled to anything and will just take it. Actress Camila Banus gives the character a signature combination of pathos and humor but now we have to wonder if her days in Salem are numbered.
It was Banus herself who got the social media rumor mill abuzz when she posted a message on both Twitter and Instagram saying: “Self tape moments. Hey, film and television industry! 🙋♀️ I’m an actor available for work !! #hireme #actorforwork @sagaftra #sagaftra #auditionprocess #selftapes #90shairstyle.”
On Instagram, the message is actually a caption to a series of photos that look like they come from a generic audition tape. Could it be true that Banus is actually off Days of Our Lives and won’t be returning after the soap resumes production? (Like most TV shows, DAYS halted production when the coronavirus pandemic became a major public health crisis.)
We already know that several performers Banus’s Gabi shares story with has already taped their last scenes, including Galen Gering who plays her brother, Rafe. Freddie Smith and Chandler Massey, who play Sonny and Will, Gabi’s daughter two daddies, are also off the soap.
Banus joined Days of Our Lives in 2010 as Gabriella Josephina Hernandez, Rafe’s teenage sister who fell for Will and got pregnant with his child only for him to come to terms with the fact that he was gay. Gabi has committed a litany of crimes over the years and spent time in prison in 2014 off-screen. Banus returned to DAYS in 2015 and turned Gabi into a vixen supreme who found love in the DiMera mansion with Stefan O. DiMera (Brandon Barash), who might be back in the form of (amnesiac?) mechanic, Jake.
