Did you know that one of these Days of Our Lives actors majored in microbiology? This man had big dreams of growing up to be a doctor, not an actor, but then life intervened. Do you think you know which star it is? If not, read on to find out the answer.
First We Have…
Vincent Irizarry began studying piano by age 11, becoming classically trained. He continued studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston. While there, he fell in love with acting while performing in many productions with a regional theater company. After, he moved back to New York to look for work. He soon won a full-time scholarship with the late Lee Strasberg at his Theater Institute.
Next we have…
Stephen Nichols moved to Los Angeles after deciding not to take an art scholarship at Ohio State University. Instead, he wanted to join the Self-Realization Fellowship Center because he wanted to become a monk. Three short years later, Nichols turned to performing, and studied acting at the Los Angeles City College Theater Academy.
Drake Hogestyn loved baseball and was on his way to becoming a pro. However, he intended to become a doctor if his career as a pro baseball player didn’t work out. Since he was a gifted athlete, scholarships paid for his college education. He graduated with a double major in microbiology and applied sciences from the University of South Florida. He ended up getting drafted by a Yankee farm team, but a career-ending injury sent him on a different path. He had success in primetime on Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and then in 1986, he brought John Black to life on Days of Our Lives.
