Dan Feuerriegel as EJ DiMera
We realize that EJ DiMera 1.0, James Scott, had his fans when he played Susan Banks’s and Stefano DiMera’s son from 2006 to 2014. When Dan Feuerriegel stepped into the role in 2021, he had some pretty big shoes to fill. But, we’ve got to admit, EJ 2.0 has completely won us over. Here are three reasons why.
EJ may have some issues with his grown son, Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman), but put him in a scene with an actual child, like Rachel Black (Finley Rose Slater), and EJ turns into everybody’s favorite uncle. We were especially impressed with a recent scene where EJ was all sweetness and genuine charm with Rachel, while instantly flipping to rancor when talking with her mother, Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk), and back again. The whole exchange just made us smile.
EJ 1.0 could barely find time for his mother, Susan Banks (also Stacy Haiduk), relegating her to the bottom of things that were important to him. EJ 2.0 has adorable chemistry with his flaky mama, not merely tolerating her calling him “Elvis,” but even seeming to secretly enjoy it. Not only is their banter a delight, but EJ mourning her death was equally as moving. You got the feeling he was truly gut-punched by the loss of a woman who loved him unconditionally in a way no one else ever would.
And then, of course, there’s the chemistry EJ has with his beloved Samantha Brady (Alison Sweeney), as well as with Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker). They are the only couple currently on the canvas who actually seem to be having fun in each other’s company – even if they’re not officially a couple.
So what we are saying is that EJ makes us grin with delight whether he’s in scenes with women, children, or his elders. He is a triple threat. The actor has made the character the whole package. More, please.
