Soap Hub Performer Of The Week For DAYS: Marci Miller

As far as swan songs go, DAYS did Marci Miller proudly. Before her alter ego met the business end of a knife, Miller got to portray a lusty lover, a snooper out for a scoop, a disappointed dame, a bile-spewing bitch, and a model mother. Wethinks all that is certainly worthy of Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week honors.

Marci Miller – Performer of the Week

Opposite Billy Flynn’s Chad DiMera, Miller was always smiles and mussed hair and full of bountiful joy…until she wasn’t. Sure, trying to make a baby had been oodles of fun, but suddenly Abigail was seized by the zeal for justice. She was going to prove EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) innocent of the charge of kidnapping Sami Brady DiMera (Alison Sweeney) once and for – come Hell or high water.

Miller imbued her formerly sedate (and satisfied) character with a new nervous energy that she could only burn off by pacing. Pacing, flailing hands, and spitting out her dialogue at what seemed to be a mile a minute.

Chad went on a charm offensive and momentarily distracted his wife, but eventually, he was forced to lower the boom. Abigail couldn’t investigate the crime because he already knew the culprit’s identity – it was her beloved uncle, Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) – and he had been complicit in the coverup.

Miller telegraphed Abigail’s disappointment – both in her loved ones and at the killing of her story – through slightly slouched (defeated?) posture, downcast eyes, and inflection that made clear her feelings.

But fear not Chad and Lucas, Abigail swore that she’d keep schtum. And besides, she had an errand (more like an irritant) to attend to.

At Statesville, Abigail traded barbs with and spit venom at Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien), and it’s debatable whether Miller’s best moment during the contentious convo was the roar of laughter she let out when Gwen presented her with the mug she made in art class or when she picked the much-prized item up, extended her arm out to her side, dropped it, then deadpanned to Gwen, “Whoops.”

Back home, it was another round of vigorous lovemaking with Chad and then an audience with her very busy offspring. No, mommy can’t make it to the special screening of ‘Minions,’ but she will take a kiss and hugs.

Before Chad took his leave, Abigail declared that the two of them had hit life’s sweepstakes. “We’re lucky.” Almost as lucky as the audience who’d thrilled to see Marci Miller give her all one final time.
