Daytime Emmy winner Jacob Young has appeared on three different soaps but he’s known to CBS soap fans as Rick on The Bold and the Beautiful. Since exiting the half-hour serial a few years ago, the actor has stayed busy with several endeavors including a role on this season of The Walking Dead.

Jacob Young Talks Mental Health

Young’s also launched a podcast titled Real Conversations with Jacob Young. The B&B fan favorite has addressed a variety of issues on his show and one of his goals is to provide resources to his listeners for those who are struggling.

Soap Hub chatted with Young for a Wellness Wednesday column last summer in which he talked about physical health. Now, we’re running the second part of the interview in which he also addresses mental health. Read on for some important insights from Young.

What have you learned about mental health from doing your podcast?
Jacob Young: I’m learning that there are a lot of resources out there even if you’re feeling a little bit of depression and are feeling anxiety. People don’t need to be afraid to address mental health. For so many years, people didn’t talk about it. They didn’t want to air their problems. Now, I’ve noticed more than ever people are willing to talk about this. Since the first COVID shutdown, people learned a lot about themselves when they were locked down. I think that’s when people started to talk about the value of positive reinforcement.

What feedback have you gotten on your podcast?
Jacob Young: I’ve had a lot of people DM [direct message] me through different social accounts. They say they’re not sure where to turn. I’ve been able to turn many of them onto Your Life Your Voice. It’s a 24/7 service for teens. If you feel uncomfortable about calling you can text. There has been some positive response. I see messages all the time that people have been inspired by my podcast. I’m really proud of it and proud of myself for taking the steps I have to work on my own mental outlook.

Another resource for people to call is the National Suicide Prevention hotline. They can be reached at 1-800-273-8255. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
