The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review
Does anyone remember when Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) was scary? When she maimed, tortured, shot, and killed people who threatened, displeased, or looked at her funny?
As of late, she’s been reduced to an HR nightmare who whispers menacingly. And don’t get me wrong, Sheila is the Queen of menacing whispers…but I desperately waiting for The Bold and the Beautiful to remember that this is a woman who sicced bees on Lance (Adam Huss) and shot Stephanie Forrester (Susan Flannery) in cold blood.
That Sheila wouldn’t be playing matchmaker with Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) and Taylor Hayes (Krista Allen). That Sheila wouldn’t have put her fate in the hands of someone like Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson). That Sheila would have already cut the brake lines on his car or dosed him with something particularly nasty. Mercury anyone?
Further B&B Musings
* It was a short week, but the episodes on offer were far from Bold and Beautiful (see what I did there?).
For starters, where was the continuation of the Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor)/Paris Buckingham (Diamond White)/Grace Buckingham (Cassandra Creech) storyline?

Actually, on second thought, I’m kind of glad we were denied a follow-up come Tuesday and Wednesday. I don’t think I could have stomached more scenes of two people standing around dictating a grown woman’s love life and her just standing there and taking it like it’s normal for a mother to force her daughter to marry someone she doesn’t love and for the man who’s got her heart to be all, “Yea baby, you’d better just leave and hope that other man proposes to you again.” Awful, just awful.
For another, what was up with some of that dialogue coming out of Steffy Forrester Finnegan’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) mouth? Firstly, you’d think one addict would have some semblance of sympathy for another addict – but not Steffy. She’s all, “Brooke CHOSE to drink…Brooke ruined her own life…blah, blah, blah.”
But the real record scratch followed this line: “I am so sick of you and Brooke using alcohol to justify Brooke’s behavior.” Pot, kettle. Kettle, pot. Wasn’t tequila, which Steffy CHOSE to drink, one of the explanations-cum-excuses Steffy proffered after cheating on John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) with Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton)?
I’d ask why Hope Logan Spencer (Annika Noelle) didn’t throw that up in Steffy’s face, but this is The Bold and the Beautiful. No character can remember a history that’s contrary to the narrative the writers are currently hewing to.
The one thing that I can thank this soap for is finally giving closure to a plot point that has been nagging me since Sheila showed back up on my screen – she no longer works at Il Giardino. How she makes her living now, is a question for another day.
