A Critic’s Review Of The Bold and the Beautiful: Peeling Back The Deception

The author’s opinions are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic Plays Storyteller

I’ve gone on record as not expecting much from The Bold and the Beautiful. Heck, I don’t even expect Bradley Bell to make the soap make sense; not at this late juncture.

But the problem with having such low expectations is that when the inevitable tripe is dished up, I’m the one who has to ferret out some kind of logical rationale in order to carry on watching. So, without further ado, here’s my attempt as an armchair head writer to explain Bill Spencer’s (Don Diamont) abrupt, uncharacteristic about-face where Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) is concerned.

Sheila loves to drug people. Most famously she dosed Stephanie Forrester (Susan Flannery) with mercury and — on Bold and Beautiful’s sister show The Young and the Restless — she gifted Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman) a…wait for it…necklace doused with a hallucinogenic. Does that last incident have a ring of familiarity to it?

After all, B&B, and Sheila, have made a point of bringing up Bill’s sword necklace, and the bauble was reintroduced not too long before Bill started his frustrating as all hell descent into looneyville.

Perhaps on one of Sheila’s little outings from Il Giardino, she doctored the bit of jewelry and began praying on its vulnerable wearer. It’s either that or the Bill on my screen is really Deacon Sharpe (Don Diamont) in a Bill mask and the real McCoy is being held hostage in the bowels of the Psycho house on the Universal Studios backlot.

Further B&B Musings

* And Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) is where, exactly, and he’s doing…what?

* At this point I have to imagine that Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) is some sort of exhibitionist who doesn’t care who catches him in various states of undress. Katie Logan (Heather Tom) had better keep an eye on that.

* What’s ailing Bill might not make sense, but Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks) and Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) make total sense as brothers. In fact, I’ll go so far as to say that the pair is probably the most believable, relatable siblings on the soaps today.

* Yea, you and I know that Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) wasn’t exactly forthcoming about her true past history with Bill, but the question remains, will Bradley Bell ever remember that?
