Biography

Born Thom Bierdz in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Thom began acting in his early 20s, making his debut in the ’80s Brat-Pack flick St. Elmo’s Fire. He landed a role in the TV movie The Gladiator opposite Ken Wahl, Robert Culp and Nancy Allen shortly after.

In 1986, Thom landed the role that would put him on the map– as Phillip Chancellor III on the William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell daytime serial The Young and the Restless. Soon, Bierdz became one of daytime’s hottest actors receiving love letters from girls around the world.

At just 24, Thom was still a little green but he was surrounded by TV and film veterans, including the late, great Jeanne Cooper, who played his grandmother. The cast was able to show him the ropes and keep him grounded.

After storylines that tackled teen rivalry, young love, alcohol addiction, drunk driving and unwanted pregnancy, Thom held his own against actors like Jess Walton, Peter Bergman, Eric Braeden, Michael Damian, Tricia Cast, Tracey Bregman and Lauralee Bell, earning him two Emmy nominations.

He took a break from the show in 1989 but played the role on and off until 2011. Other television credits included Murder She Wrote, Matlock, Robin’s Hoods, Highway to Heaven, The Last Place on Earth and Old Dogs & New Tricks

When he is not on-screen, he is an author, publishing Forgiving Troy, a memoir about the family tragedy that changed his life– his brother Troy murdered their mother in 1989, shortly after Thom left Y&R. Later, he lost his brother Gregg to suicide and turned to writing to heal.

Thom is an award-winning painter and avid activist who resides in Big Bear, living the quiet life and and following his muse.
