It’s amazing what stress can do to a person. It doesn’t just affect us emotionally, but it also affects us physically and General Hospital’s Kirsten Storms learned that the hard way.

Sometimes Stress Takes Over Life
Stress is what took Storms from our GH screens this summer and now that the actress is back, she finally explains in depth what prompted her absence.

“I don’t think it was something that was in anyone’s control,” Storms said in the August 15th issue of Soap Opera Digest. “My skin had just gotten to a point where it was telling me and my body that I needed to take a break.”

Storms has been going through a difficult divorce and learning to become a single mom, and as the GH makeup team tried to cover her stress-induced breakouts, the chemicals just made her skin worse. What seemed like a Catch-22 resulted in the actress taking a much-needed break. In fact, it was Executive Producer Frank Valentini who suggested the break.

The actress admitted to Digest that she threw herself into work once she decided to divorce former co-star Brandon Barash (ex-Johnny).

“Even though we both agreed on it and knew it was what was best for us, it’s still hard to process your relationship ending and moving on with your life,” Storms told Digest.

When Storms chose to take her break, she thought her skin would take weeks to clear. Instead, it took days.

“I think just sleeping and relaxing and hanging out at home with [daughter] Harper made it easier for that to happen,” she told Digest.

With GH then on its summer set break, Storms also had the time to move into a new house and away from Barash. Despite, their relationship ending, the pair was still living together.

Storms is now back in action as Maxie and grateful for pinch hitter, Molly Burnett. She and Burnett have been friends for years. However, it was also co-star Michelle Stafford (Nina) texting her each day that made her time away from GH that much easier.
