There have been countless Grey’s Anatomy relationships that should’ve never happened — AKA Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) and George O’Malley (T.R. Knight) — but there are a few we wish would’ve happened.
Whether it be a fling or a long-lasting love, there are some relationships we wish were given the chance to blossom. Here’s our list of the top five Grey’s Anatomy couples we wish had happened. See if our list matches up with your top picks!
5. Jo Wilson and Andrew DeLuca
Jo (Camila Luddington) never reciprocated the feelings DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) had for her a few seasons ago, but there’s a small part of us that wonders what could have been. Jo and DeLuca are roughly the same age and could have balanced each other out nicely. We’re not saying they’d last, but a hot fling could have been interesting.
4. Addison Montgomery and Alex Karev
Back when Alex (Justin Chambers) was the jerk with a heart of gold, we would’ve loved to have seen him with Addison (Kate Walsh). She was ultimately left by Derek (Patrick Dempsey) for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and she couldn’t quite make things work with Mark (Eric Dane), so it would’ve been fun to see Addison let loose with an intern.

3. Mark Sloan and Meredith Grey
We know this one is going to be controversial because #McDreamyForever, but it could’ve caused serious drama! Much like how DeLuca is currently bringing out a new side of Meredith, we bet Mark could’ve brought out a fun and different side of her too. Again, these two were never going to get married, but it would’ve lit a fire under Derek!
2. Lexie Grey and George O’Malley
George didn’t reciprocate Lexie’s (Chyler Leigh) feelings for him, but we really wish he had. George always wanted to find a nice girl to settle down with, and Lexie could’ve definitely been that girl for him. They were both so loving and kind, they would’ve had such a great relationship.
1. Alex Karev and Meredith Grey
Alex and Meredith are definitely great as just friends and probably consider themselves to be brother and sister, but there’s a small part of us that wonders what it would be like if they decided to give a relationship a shot.
There’s no one Meredith trusts more than Alex, and there’s not a woman on this planet that Alex has stood by longer than Meredith. They have such a great friendship, so we don’t want to ruin that, but we’ll always wonder if these two are actually soulmates.
