Odafin “Fin” Tutuola is a sergeant on Law & Order: SVU and is someone who always believes in justice. Though Fin’s a bit closed off and doesn’t like to talk about himself, his difficult past is what’s made him the man he is today.

From witnessing a horrific death to his interesting side hobby, here are five fast facts you need to know about Fin (Ice-T).

Rough Beginnings
When he was just a little boy growing up in New York, he witnessed his mother being murdered. She was killed by a business rival of his father. Fin later found out while investigating a murder years later that the man who killed his mother was also murdered.

Military Man
Fin was formerly a U.S. Army Ranger and served in the 75th Ranger Regiment. He served on two tours and was once deployed to Somalia, but he rarely speaks about his time in the army.

Grandfather Guilt
While he was in the police academy back in the day, Fin had to place his grandfather into a nursing home. Unfortunately, his grandfather was abused inside of the home and it’s what killed him. This guilt and anger deeply affected Finn and he started fights with other officers. This almost got him kicked out of the academy.

Video Game Fanatic
Fin loves playing video games and he regularly attends video game conventions. He views video games as an escape from his day-to-day life which as a member of SVU, you have to admit, can be a little rough.

Family Issues
He has a son named Ken with ex-wife Teresa Randall. Ken is gay and thought his father would never accept him but Fin supports Ken, even if he has a hard time understanding him. Fin was not around much when he was with Narcotics and going undercover a lot. At one point, Ken asked Olivia for help instead of his own father, but they’re good now.
