Many people don’t remember the original Samantha on Days of Our Lives (DOOL). She was Marlena’s twin sister (played by Deidre Hall’s twin, Andrea) and was killed in 1982 by The Salem Strangler.
Of course, everyone thought Marlena had perished because nobody knew Samantha was staying in Marlena’s apartment for a few days while she was out of town. When Marlena returned, ex-husband, Don (Jed Allan), could barely believe his eyes.
In this clip below, Don tells Marlena someone was killed who looked just like her and the body was found in her apartment. That’s when Marlena knew the person killed had to be her sister.

And yes, Samantha Brady, aka Sami, was named after her mother’s twin, but so far, she’s managed to evade crazed serial stranglers–and perhaps her son did too, after all.
