Susan Seaforth Hayes was cast as Julie on Days of Our Lives back in 1968. Along with her incredible work on DAYS, Hayes has also been on The Young and the Restless, Sunset Beach, and a number of other shows over the course of her over 60-year career.

Hayes has had a long career in Hollywood, there’s no question about it, but her life outside of the spotlight is just as interesting. From her very successful mother to her side job, here are five fast facts you need to know about the Days of Our Lives star.

In The Beginning
While a lot of actors have to make the trek to Los Angeles to pursue acting, Hayes was actually born in Oakland, California on July 11 and raised in Hollywood. She started acting when she was a pre-teen and ended up booking her first acting job when she was 11 years old on the show Cavalcade of America.

Successful Mother
Acting was in Hayes’ blood, as her mother, Elizabeth Harrower, was an actress and a writer as well. In fact, Harrower wrote on both The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives! She worked on both shows during the ‘70s and the ‘80s.

On-Screen & Off-Screen Romance
Hayes began dating her Days of Our Lives onscreen lover, Bill Hayes, in the ‘70s. The couple then tied the knot in 1974 and are still together to this day. They also appeared on the cover of Time magazine back in 1976 and are the only daytime actors to ever do so! The couple also wrote a memoir titled Like Sands Through the Hourglass in 2005.

The couple was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2018 Daytime Emmy Awards for their contributions to not just DAYS, but television as a whole. She was also honored with an episode on DAYS to celebrate her 50th anniversary on the show last year. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
