Some characters in soap opera history start making an impact before they’re even born as was the case with one such character on The Bold and the Beautiful — Rick Forrester — played the longest by Jacob Young. Other Rick portrayers include Jeremy Snider, Steven Hartman, Justin Torkildsen, and Kyle Lowder. Here’s a look back at the pivotal player in BB’s history!
Early Days
Brooke solidified her relationship with Eric by becoming pregnant with his son, much to the chagrin of Eric’s bitter wife Stephanie. La Forrester blocked Eric divorcing her, resulting in Brooke’s son being born illegitimate. She eventually acquiesced but was devastated that her ex-husband’s child with her bitter rival would be his namesake — Eric. Jr.
Rivals ‘R’ Us
Eric Jr., now going by the name Rick, sparred with C.J. Garrison, the son of his parents’ fashion rivals, Sally Spectra, and Clarke Garrison. Scuffles with C.J. were nothing compared to Rick’s next move. After watching a lot of videos, he snapped and shot his mother’s boyfriend, Grant, in the shoulder. Ridge took the fall for Rick’s crime.
Growing Up
Teen Rick had a fling with Amber, his babysitter. She became pregnant but gave birth to a stillborn baby. Amber passed another baby off as hers and Rick’s, eventually telling him the truth. The couple split, but Rick found it difficult to fully walk away — despite subsequent romances with, among others, Kimberly Fairchild, Caitlin Ramirez, Ashley Abbott, and Taylor Hayes.
Rick’s Fall
While fighting with Ridge, Rick fell and was temporarily paralyzed. He used Ridge and Brooke’s guilt to manipulate them into making him head of Forrester Creations. Occasionally, Rick would point out that Ridge wasn’t Eric’s birth son — Massimo Marone is Ridge’s true dad.
Phoebe Forrester grew enamored of Rick. She became upset when their relationship wasn’t progressing the way she wanted. One night, Phoebe grabbed the steering wheel when they were driving, trying to get Rick’s attention. The car crashed, and Phoebe died.

Sweet Caroline
Amber came back into Rick’s life, but her efforts to reconnect with him romantically were thwarted by the arrival of Caroline Spencer, the daughter of the original Caroline’s twin, Karen. Caroline’s irrepressible flightiness eventually gave way to a more controlling persona.
Rick wed Caroline, and he stayed with her to keep his top position at Forrester. Rick became furious over Brooke and Ridge’s relationship. He “borrowed” Stephanie’s pistol and fired some “warning shots” at the couple. Rick tried to brush off his actions, but they showed he had a troubled side.
Love Wins
Later, Rick drifted away from Caroline and fell for Maya Avant, who was keeping a big secret. Maya finally revealed to Rick that she was born Myron and transitioned from male to female. At first, Rick needed time to process the news and wasn’t sure if he could love Maya given this new information.
He realized he did love her and the two were married. Maya’s sister, Nicole, served as a surrogate to give Rick and Maya a daughter, Lizzie. She contemplated going for custody but agreed to let her brother-in-law and his wife keep the little girl.
Forrester International
After Rick and Maya settled custody issues with Nicole, they took a trip overseas. Months later, Maya returned without her husband, revealing they’d split up. Currently, Rick is working at Forrester International and only time will tell if and when he returns to the canvas. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS.
