Tanner Novlan is the latest actor to join the cast of The Bold and the Beautiful, but he knew about the show long before he got the audition to play the part of Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan because of a special familial connection.
Tanner Novlan Has Birthday Wishes
The actor wed actress Kayla Ewell, who played the part of Caitlin Ramirez on BB from 2004-05. BB viewers recall that Caitlin was paired romantically with Thomas (then, Drew Tyler Bell; now, Matthew Atkinson). Ironically, now Novlan’s character is paired on-screen with Thomas’s sister Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood).
Novlan recently took to social media in order to honor Ewell’s special day! “Happy Birthday to the best wife, momma, and friend. @kaylaewell,” Novlan posted on Instagram along with a photo of Ewell, who is holding the couple’s daughter, Poppy Marie, 1.
The two wed on September 12, 2015, in a ceremony attended by 200 close family and friends. The couple met when they shot a video five years earlier for the single Maybe by the Australian band Sick Puppies.

“It was my birthday, and I got a phone call to do a music video,” Ewell told People. “I was with my girlfriend at lunch and she was like, ‘It’s your birthday and you got a phone call out of the blue to do this music video? I think you should do it!’ I joke with Tanner that he was the best birthday present that I ever got.”
Tanner Novlan proposed marriage to Ewell about nine months before they got married during a private sailboat ride in Santa Monica, Calif. “Kayla is a tough one to surprise,” Novlan added. “I told the captain over the phone, ‘We have to do it right away because the nerves are going!’”
After getting back on dry land, Ewell was happily surprised to see that her family had flown in for the event. “The celebration isn’t complete without my family,” she shared. “It was a really special time.”
Might Ewell pop up again on BB as Caitlin? Anything’s possible. Thomas sure could use a stable force in his life, perhaps someone who knew him when he wasn’t as troubled?
