This week, Liam Spencer marries the love of his life in some classic episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful. If you think that Liam’s true love is Steffy or if you think it’s Hope, you’re right!
Scott Clifton: Can Liam Have It Both Ways?
Scott Clifton (Liam) explained to TV Insider how one man can be in love with two different women throughout his life. “It’s 50/50 and I think it always will be,” Clifton says as to the breakdown of his fanbase and whether fans want him with Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) or Hope (Annika Noelle).
“Liam could be with one, torn between the two, or with the other,” the actor further explains. “The nature of the triangle has to be where neither will definitively win. You have two different camps. The Hope fans are diehard and the Steffy fans are equally so, too. You can never really answer that question.
“A character may be able to win in the moment,” he continues, but, “The meta-narrative is that [Liam] could be wrong. Liam may believe Hope is the love of his life, but then he’ll have moments where he realizes that Steffy is. I’ve been ribbing Darin [Brooks, Wyatt] who now knows more what it’s like to be in Liam’s position where he’s gone back and forth between Flo [Katrina Bowden] and Sally [Courtney Hope].”

Just as Liam can’t ultimately choose between two women, his portrayer couldn’t choose which wedding locale — Australia for Steffy; Italy for Hope — he prefers. “I had never been to Australia before,” he recalls of the show’s 2017 visit down under. “It was really cool getting to do that. I’m so grateful I got to see it and check that box on the bucket list… I got to pet a kangaroo.”
Clifton equally enjoyed his trip to Italy in 2012 when he shot Liam’s marriage to Hope (then Kim Matula). The trip afforded the actor not only exposure to the beautiful European country but also insights into what BB means to its worldwide audience.
“[W]hen we go out on location, we see so many people show up to watch us,” he notes. “We get a sense of the impact that we and the show actually have on people’s lives all over the world in countries and cultures.” The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
