Anna Maria Horsford has played Vivienne Avant on The Bold and the Beautiful since 2015. Along with her soap role, Horsford has appeared on a number of television shows including Grey’s Anatomy, New Girl, Entourage, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and The Wayans Bros.

Movies and television roles aside, Horsford has also managed to stay busy outside her career. From teaching aspiring actors to her very first job, here are five fast facts about The Bold and the Beautiful actress.

In The Beginning
Horsford was born on March 6 and raised in the Harlem section of New York City. She began acting in community theater when she was a little girl and performed in church events. She also attended the New York’s esteemed LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts.

First Job
Horsford auditioned for the Shakespeare festival in Harlem just one month after she graduated high school and got the role. She then moved to Sweden because she was interested in foreign films at the time.

Her first soap role was on The Doctors, which she followed up quickly with Guiding Light, where she played Clara and shared a cell with Holly, who’d shot Roger Thorpe.

Most Notable Film Role
Horsford’s most notable film role was playing Craig Jones’s (Ice Cube) mother in the 1995 comedy Friday. She reprised her role in the sequel, Friday After Next, which came out in 2002.

Though the film was only made for around $3 million, it has garnered a large cult following over the years because it’s an enormously funny flick.

Giving Back
Along with acting, Horsford loves to share her knowledge with aspiring artists. She taught drama therapy at the College of New Rochelle, N.Y., and also held an acting workshop for the City Volunteer Corp. She’s also a spokesperson for the Institute of Black Parenting, which is an agency that tries to increase adoption for African-American children.

Getting Personal
Horsford is married to Daniel Wolfe. The actress was also given the title of Ambassador of Tourism of Antigua in 2011, as this is where her father is from (her mother is from the Dominican Republic) and where she spent a lot of time growing up. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
